17:40 PM – 18:40 PM: Sinaloa-Style Chicken, Mexican Cheese Tasting.
This style to cook the chicken is very popular all over Mexico, made originally in one of the northern states of Mexico, Sinaloa, has became very popular everywhere in Mexico. The mixture of spices to marinate the chicken with lime juice overnight and then grilled made the chicken so tender and flavorful. Depending of the region in Mexico, this dish is served with different provisions, here in the Mayan region is served with pickled onion, salsa xni-pec, black beans, rice and fresh corn tortillas.
The second stop is about the different cheeses used in Mexico. In Mexican culture the milk was introduced by the Spaniards and then, the use of this ingredient became more regular, however, the culture around the cheese in Mexico is not as big as in other countries, is not too often that we find cured cheese, blue or aged, the cheeses are usually fresh. In this stop we will discover the most popular and of course very tasty.
18:40 PM – 19:10 PM: Ceviche Nayarit and Pescadillas
After tacos is time to taste one dish that is very popular in all Latin America, but in Mexico match perfectly with the chili pepper flavor. Nayarit, state in the pacific coast offers one excellent option to learn more about the sea food and the amazing way to cook ceviche.
The other dish here is pescadillas, that is fish cooked with a special adobo (sauce) that is not spicy but full of flavor, this fill is putted inside a fresh tortilla and then deep fired. Just delicious!
19:10 PM – 19:30 PM: Asada Tacos
The best meat in Mexico is found at the north of the country, and this friends and family traveled all their way to this region, bringing with them the most delicious asada tacos in town. Delicious and tender meat, all grilled and served with corn tortillas, fresh and spicy salsas, cilantro, onion, lime juice…simply irresistible.
19:30 PM - 20:00 PM: Churros and Mexican Sweets Finale
This is where we say good bye. When the light is going down the square starts to feel and see more alive, different treats are sold in carts around the square. Sweet bread, crystalized fruits, merengues, and of course churros, this fantastic fried dough cover with sugar and cinnamon are so far the best in the region! After this we will leave close to the grocery store, just in case you want to buy a souvenir or some interesting Mexican product to cook something delicious at home. We are happy to help make arrangements for taxis or call our friends if you want to spend the next few hours wandering and doing some shopping in the handcraft stores.
Tour Reviews
My wife and I took the Puerto Morelos Food Tour with Chef Chris on October 15, 2021.
We have bought a home in Puerto Morelos and wanted to acclimate ourselves to Puerto Morelos Colonia Side especially in regards to the local business’s and Chris came strongly recommended.
Chris is intelligent, well spoken and has a great passion and knowledge of the Mexican culture.
This was much more than a food tour it was dinner out with a friend and a great conversationalist. Chris not only help us experience great local foods but at the same time gave us an accounting of the Mexican Riviera’s history and the cultural migration of Mexican people to this area from the various regions and spoke with reverence of the Maya peoples and how this all tied into the local cuisine.
Such surprisingly wonderful food and great tastes, this tour really opened our minds to the local business’s and since we have gone back for seconds and appreciate the quality of food and tastes that I have never experienced before!
We are grateful we took this tour it was a great start to get to know and understand a little better about the community.
We could see that Chris’s message resonated a sense of pride, dignity and respect for the local people in Puerto Morelos.
Thank you Chris from Ken and Laurie
Fabulous tour, we learned so much about many different aspects of Mexico. It was lots of fun and interesting too. Cristobal was a wonderful tour guide and took us to several interesting places that I don’t think we would of otherwise stopped at. Thank you for making the tour such fun.
